GMYC offers inspiring choral opportunities for children in central New England with choirs rehearsing in Keene and Peterborough, New Hampshire. We offer five different ensembles supporting the musical growth and artistic development of singers in grades 2 through 12.
GMYC has about 100 singers from 20 towns rehearsing in 5 ensembles in both Keene and Peterborough. Rehearsals are once per week with stand-alone performances in December and May. Tuition is $500 for the year and believes that through tuition assistance, finances will not be a barrier to any child who wants to sing with GMYC.
Grades 2- 4GMYC has two ensembles for young singers in grades 2 - 4 with rehearsals after school on Tuesdays in Keene and Wednesdays in Peterborough.
Singers focus on aural skills, beginning sight reading skills, listening and teamwork, performance etiquette, vowel work, breathing skills, and body movement. Singers are supportive, goofy, committed, and leave rehearsals skipping and singing! |
Grades 5-8GMYC has two ensembles for middle schoolers in grades 5-8 with rehearsals after school on Tuesdays in Keene and Wednesdays in Peterborough. Every other year, the choirs go on a regional performance tour.
Singers work together to perform unison, 2-part and 3-part repertoire ranging in styles and time periods. These capable singers begin to read music in a supportive environment and free of judgement. Singers of all genders develop healthy singing technique through their voice changes, hurdle, and discomforts. The singers are supportive, goofy, committed, and often stretch their comfort zones in a bully-free zone. |
High SchoolThe Cecilia Ensemble is the region's premier high school treble ensemble performing locally, regionally, and internationally.
Singers who wish to advance their singing may audition for Cecilia. Singers are responsible, and learn to refine healthy breathing, posture & singing techniques. They improve to music reading (music literacy), continue with vocal improvisation, develop advanced listening skills, work toward music reading mastery, build self-confidence, leadership & musical independence and perform in unison to 8- part harmonies. The Cecilia Ensemble is a choir-family performing sacred and secular, medieval to modern, classical, folk, gospel, and non-traditional modern tunes performing in many foreign languages, and takes an international concert tour every other year. |
