Grand Monadnock Youth Choirs Announces Open Registration for Youth Choirs in Keene and Peterborough9/2/2022 Grand Monadnock Youth Choirs is now accepting online registrations for children throughout the Monadnock Region entering grades K-8 who love to sing. Three unique youth choirs are currently enrolling: Rise Up, Elm City Singers and Choristers.
Rise Up is a non-audition singing ensemble for children in grades K-3 meeting in Peterborough, NH. Rise Up singers will experience seven 1-hour singing classes beginning on September 17th and culminating in a private performance for families and guests in early November. Rehearsals will be full of singing and movement and will enrich the music education of participants through dance, toys/props, rhymes and poetry, performance etiquette, singing a variety of music, and playing rhythmic and melodic games. For singers in grades 4-8, GMYC has two non-audition ensembles. Choristers rehearses in Peterborough on Monday afternoons, and Elm City Singers rehearses in Keene on Tuesday afternoons. Singers work together to perform unison, 2-part and 3-part repertoire ranging in styles and time periods. These capable singers begin to read music in a supportive environment and free of judgment. Singers of all genders develop healthy singing technique in GMYC ensembles throughout their whole childhood. Rhoades reflects, “when children are young, parents often notice that they have a songbird in the house. This is the perfect time to get kids singing in a choir - all these songbirds join together to create such beautiful singing. Plus, your child comes home singing some really special songs.” GMYC continues to encourage and nurture voices through puberty, when many kids find it harder to sing than they had before. “Even though singing can become more challenging for some kids in middle school, when boys and girls sing - and crack - throughout puberty, their voices remain more flexible and capable on the other side,” said Rhoades. GMYC singers of all ages are musical, brave, goofy, committed, willing to try new things, encouraging of themselves and others, and often stretch their comfort zones in a bully-free zone. Esther Rhoades, the Artistic Director of Grand Monadnock Youth Choirs, has directed choirs and taught music to singers of all ages for more than 14 years. Her energetic teaching style, expertise in music, and infectious positivity allow GMYC singers to thrive and grow not only musically, but also as individuals.Online registrations can be made at: https://www.grandmonadnockyouthchoirs.org/sing-with-gmyc.html
